Sarducci's
Capistrano Depot Enchanting Historic Train
Station Restaurant is the Ultimate Recipe
for Relaxation.
by Christina Duane
When
entertaining guests from Sweden, or friends
from New York, who are seeking the true
California experience, the first place I
take them to dine is Sarducci's
Capistrano Depot where the spirit of
Early California and life enjoyed to the
fullest today are one.
Located
in a Historic Brick domed train station
along the Santa Fe line is one of the most
memorable dining experiences one can have.
While enjoying excellent selections from
Sarducci's eclectic menu, guests enjoy the
view of arriving trains through large arched
windows and as they depart they reveal high
chaparral with it's blend of cactus, Eucalyptus,
and floral botanical gardens and the old
wooden sign reading San Juan Capistrano.
Intimate
Rooms with brick fireplaces, stone walls
with brick arches and a large banquet room
with picture window views of Historic Los
Rios district beckon visitors who are mesmerized
by the scenery. The gallery of fine art
that is exhibited within the depot walls
is a treat for diners as it is one of the
finest collections in Orange County.
The outdoor patio with it's beautiful stone fountain
is a garden oasis where the Mission bells
and the soundtrack of the arriving and departing
trains lull one into a timeless sense of
relaxation. With the addition of a glass
of fine wine from the wine list, time spent
at Sarducci's is nothing less than therapeutic.
How
many precious memories have been made at
Capistrano Depot while dipping sourdough
bread into creamy Cajon shrimp served in
a sourdough bowl. The Southwest flavors
of black beans, corn, chicken and avocado,
deep fried in a wonton wrap are delicious
dipped in sweet and sour sauce. There is
nothing like an order of authentic beer
batter onion rings! No breading here, onion
ring connoisseurs.
Now
you may just start with one of the for mentioned
appetizers but for the main course you may
wish to try Charbroiled Lamb Tenderloin
wi
th
fresh spinach, pesto wrapped in puff pastry
and baked until golden. Encrusted Halibut
is also a favorite served with garlic-mashed
potatoes or one of many signature pasta
creations on the menu.
There
is a children's menu at Sarduccis Capistrano
Depot that features activities for your
children's coloring pleasure which ads to
the parent's relaxation. The menu offers
everything from gourmet hamburgers, and
specialty salads to steak and seafood selections.
The lunch menu features my very favorite
sandwich of all time, the Depot's Cashew
Chicken Salad Sandwich, simply the best
chicken salad sandwich ever on squaw
bread of course!
So
come and enjoy what local San Juan Capistrano
residents and world travelers alike consider.
